Playtest 1 Notes
For the Heart of Varvaron » Devlog
Playtest 1 (Oct 4th, 2021):
Notes:
- First time playing game, played 5 rounds
- This was a good middle ground amount of gameplay time
- Had a unique map
- Rolled 6 sided die for “event card” that we made up on the fly, 5 minutes max to come to group decision about how to “solve problem”, or everyone would lose 5 gold
- Player that first came up with solution tended to have their solution most likely to be picked
- Originally started with 1 gold (g) for each person per round.
- With characters and buildings owned being worth 5 points, this was not substantial enough
- Everyone rolls a die at beginning of each round for a character which they get if they land on a 6. Rolled 6d again to see which faction players would make character for (ex. 1=farmhands, 2=workers etc.)
- Only got characters at end of game, we didn’t like the double luck component of trying to gain a character
Reflection:
- Was really fun, all three of us tended to pick different building aesthetics, but this made for the mental image of a really unique town
- Debate and creativity skills are key to be good at this game, we would like more fairness and luck involved in this
Changes to Make:
- Players start with 5g and get 5g per round, each gold is still worth “one point”
- Creating event cards with different unique repercussions if players don’t agree (as opposed to default of everyone losing 5g)
- Event cards to have more severe repercussions
- If player rolls 6 on character portion of the round, they make a character for themselves instead of others
- Town is made up of lizard people, visitors and travellers are different animal species
- New map
